Saidit got it's shit together just at the right time.

I'm very glad I've deleted that website from my phone.

Geez, just for upvoting, no less. What a clusterfuck.

[–]magnora7 19 insightful - 5 fun19 insightful - 4 fun20 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

It's like getting arrested for filming the police. Absolute nonsense.

[–]killerjavi98 24 insightful - 6 fun24 insightful - 5 fun25 insightful - 6 fun -  (0 children)

It seems like censorship over there gets worse every day.

oh yeah, I got banned from r/funny for saying "that's a sad gorge". It was a picture of a gorge.

You can't say anything over there, what's the point of a social media site where you can't be social?!

Dumbasses.

[–]jamesK_3rd 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (14 children)

They Are social. It's just social without you.

That your voice isn't there is a feature, not a bug.

[–]magnora7 11 insightful - 2 fun11 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

Really it's Overton Window control. They have a trillion opinions posted to the site, and they constantly decide what opinions are valid and which aren't. The manage the overton window, which literally manages the national conversation as reddit is in the top 20 most-visited websites in the world.

Ranchers who want to control sheep use sheepdogs. Rulers who want to control people use Overton Window Management. Reddit is the new MSM.

[–]querycan19 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

doesn't saidit do the same thing though? try to control its overton window?

[–]magnora7 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Yes in the sense we don't allow advocation of violence. But our overton window is much much wider than reddit's or voat's, and that's kind of the whole point of the website

[–]querycan19 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

saidit doesn't try to maintain a "balanced" overton window, regardless of any consensus forming among the site's users?

[–]magnora7 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Not really, we try to avoid becoming voat (and also avoid becoming reddit) but almost all the culture is determined by the users

[–]querycan19 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

that sounds like artificially influencing the overton window if the site is prevented from organically becoming too voat-like and too reddit-like.

[–]magnora7 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

well the thing is it's not organic, it's caused by brigading most of the time, and one person pretending to be many people. Which is how I can root it out easily. Also people pushing things in a voat-like direction often advocate violence, so they're easy to remove over that as well. So it's not artificial, it's just consistent with our ruleset

[–]querycan19 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

was /s/holocaustskepticism brigading?

[–]beermeem 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

What are you really asking?

[–]Aureus 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

This is why I see leaving reddit as a loss, not necessarily as a principled stand. You're censoring yourself from the majority of people.

Saidit is a great alternative but it gravely limits our reach.

[–]philosopher 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Yep, but the more good conversation and ideas we find here, the more that people who are sick of Reddit will stay. Digg was big, but it fell hard when its time came.

[–]Aureus 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

100% agree. This is why it bothers me people are using this site just for memes, news articles, and outrage porn. SaidIt needs to be about quality, not quantity.

Could you read over my thread here and leave a comment on it letting me know what you think? It's related to this topic.

[–]beermeem 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

yawn

The worst part is, that they don't even tell you which thing you upvoted was wrong.

Reddit is seriously in decline now. They even banned /r/911memes, while ignoring /r/coronavirusmemes.

    [–]useless_aether[S] 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

yes, kafka is as fundamental as orwell for the leftists.

the protagonist josef k never finds out what he is charged with. just like reddit.

    [–]magnora7 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

The worst part is, that they don't even tell you which thing you upvoted was wrong.

It's like applying for a job and getting rejected. No one gives honest feedback anymore because everyone is just trying to minimize liability rather than just being a human being

    bingo bango bongo

    This guy internets!

    [–]Entropick 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (10 children)

worse than digg ever was. proof this existence is false, fake, phony and full of lies.

    [–]useless_aether[S] 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

being redpilled and redpilling are ultimately good things

    [–]magnora7 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yeah digg at least everyone knew it was falling apart. Reddit has managed to compartmentalize the decay so that most don't notice it, until they try and post for themselves

    [–]beermeem 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Killing Aaron probably kind of had a lot to do with the decline of Reddit.

Digg was dead from Day One.

    [–]beermeem 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Why do people even act like Digg was anything?

    [–]magnora7 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

At it's peak it was ranked 4,200 on alexa rankings: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digg

It was around just before reddit, so it was valuable and a lot of people used it. But reddit's format was obviously superior in the long run. Digg had like 2 really good years, but cratered so quickly because the users revolted all at once and there was no subreddit system so everyone saw it all, and everyone left all at once.

    [–]MirrorOfUtsuho 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

To be fair, I've always been a fan of slashdot-style moderation, and I was on slashdot rather than digg, but without a subreddit system slashdot didn't cover all of the various fandoms and philosophies like reddit.

    [–]beermeem 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Maybe you should learn some history.

I been here. I am the Shepard you shall not keep.

    [–]Riva 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Digg was the only game in town. Stumbleupon was the big guy until digg came along. And they were really really good. Until they weren't.

    Reddit learned lessons from that.

    [–]fishbox 4 insightful - 7 fun4 insightful - 6 fun5 insightful - 7 fun -  (25 children)

Don't break the fucking rules. saidit would be much better if it came down on the wannabe nazi incels that plague this place.

    [–]useless_aether[S] 15 insightful - 6 fun15 insightful - 5 fun16 insightful - 6 fun -  (2 children)

There's always the folks that leave California/NY/Illinois and take their voting habits with them.

They cannot grasp the reason that it's terrible is because of them, not in spite of them.

    [–]Jesus-Christ 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

Lol you're right, they spread like a cancer. Wherever they go, they're able to turn any decent place into a fucking shit hole. It's actually sad.

    [–][deleted] 12 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Just block people if you don't want to hear from them. That does require having an interaction but still. I don't mind Nazi incels, its better to let people think unpleasant thoughts as opposed to having any centralized authority sanitizing the place.

    [–]muyuu 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

how does blocking work on saidit?

    [–]magnora7 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

right now it only blocks replies and PMs, but soon we hope to expand it so you can remove a person from your feed entirely if you want

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Once someone replies to your message or post, there is a "block user" button in the message next to the reply button

    [–]muyuu 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I don't see that here for instance (?) anyway what I meant was feature-wise (as the sibling reply)

but come to think of it I don't see the button either, weird

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

but come to think of it I don't see the button either, weird

You need to go to the private DM. You can only block users from the DMs.

    [–]muyuu 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

    ah ok

    [–]fartwaffen 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

"Censorship is perfectly OK as long as they are stepping on the people I don't align with"

    You ARE reddit.

    [–]fishbox 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Private company, they can do whatever they want.

    [–]fartwaffen 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

So, why aren't you back there? You seem to align perfectly with their policies.

    [–]fishbox 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

Naw, I just hate shit brains like you guys.

    [–]fartwaffen 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Ahh, a Reddit slider. Which sub did you come from? Nice to see that you are here only to disrupt and not to contribute.

    [–]fishbox 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

just because it hurts your feelings does not mean its not contributing.

    [–]fartwaffen 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

You mistake disgust for hurt feelings? Typical.

    [–]fishbox 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

You want to talk about disgust while incel nazi's go on about how evil and dangerous nonwhites are?

    [–]moid_scrote 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

He has point though. Honestly, would you not be happy there right now? its all perefectly rounded with not rough edges.

Why comes here with all the filth thats about to be given birth to?

    [–]Toastymuffins 10 insightful - 3 fun10 insightful - 2 fun11 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Just ignore em. Their self-esteem is based solely on the attention they receive from it.

    [–]magnora7 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Ignoring things that beg for attention is sometimes the most powerful thing you can do

Why are you here if you want censorshit?

    [–]fishbox 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

pretty much just for Watch People Die but even that is a slog. Redit sucks, but WPD was miles better there then here.

    [–]Questionable 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

    Amazing.

    [–]dashiefan 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This is actually ridiculous. You can't even upvote what you like.

    [–]m68k 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If a comment was against Reddit policies, why not remove the comment... Of course, this is just nothing more than Reddit weeding out the wrongthinkers.

    [–]Trajan 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Lovely. I have many times upvoted stuff I disagree with just because I don’t want it censored. I want stupid, even hateful comments visible to all so they can see it and the counter arguments.

    [–]useless_aether[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

the knee-jerk downvote brigades on reddit are out of control

    WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT

    THIS ISN'T SATIRE

    IT'S NOT FAKE

THIS IS ACTUALLY IN THEIR FUCKING POLICY

CTRL F FOR Users who consistently upvote policy-breaking

Today, we’re making an update to address this gap: Users who consistently upvote policy-breaking content within quarantined communities will receive automated warnings, followed by further consequences like a temporary or permanent suspension. We hope this will encourage healthier behavior across these communities.

Today it's only within quarantined communities

    Tomorrow it'll be site wide.

    [–]ThinkerBunny 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's pretty sad that not only does belonging to/posting on subreddits with opposing views get you autobanned from subreddits, but upvoting too? Sheesh.

    [–]admirablexcursion 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Just got banned for calling a sex worker a sex worker on reddit lads. I even clarified that she was in fact a sex worker and that sex worker is in fact the technical term, but mods gonna mod

    [–]SierraKiloBravo 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

    For upvoting? Wewww

    [–]Wrang1er 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

How do they know who upvotes what?

    [–]useless_aether[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

the admins can see everything.. it's like being root.

    [–]Wrang1er 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I have heard that they can also see your IP address, that should be illegal.

    [–]useless_aether[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

with tencent (china) involved things will get much worse and i expect a 'bad' upvote will directly affect our future social credit.

that system is in the works, the chinese melded with the un and are transforming their social credit system for global implementation. that will be their solution to the 'right wing extremists' or some other lame excuse like that. it will probably have contact tracking and who knows what else too.

    [–]Zednix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

That is fucked. I've had a bunch of warnings for wrong-voting over there. I wish saidit had downvotes. There is not as much trash posted on this site but there isn't much you can do about it.

    [–]Wrang1er 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, downvoting discourages hateful comments and posts, I don't know why there are no downvotes.
