I see debates like this from time to time, and I kind of think 99% of Linux users don't care. I can make do with Gnome, KDE, "X Face," or even TWM.
Wasn't Gnome a Miguel de Icaza thing? That guy writes a lot of stuff that just sort of ends up rotting. He's like, Microsoft's attempt to make an open-source dev guru, but they've never really met one and they're working from grainy photos of Richard Stallman.

Miguel was mostly focused on Mono but I think he was also responsible for some of Gnome. It's all shit anyway.

Those Mono people have to be a little bit embarrassed by how quickly .NET Core rendered them hilariously obsolete.

Yeah actually Miguel worked for M$ and helped produce .net core but like I said, It's all shit anyway.

If all you do with your GUI desktop environment is open a web browser and a terminal then it doesn't matter what you use. But if you actually use your desktop, then its usability matters a lot. I really, really miss KDE 3.
