What are you doing to prepare for New Years 2020?
I'm not talking about surviving the US Election, prepping for the apocalypse, or rebelling against the New New World Order.
I'm talking about your day to day routine. Not only is it a new year but it's also a new decade. I love fresh starts. Yet sometimes an canvas with infinite possibilities is more daunting that having some parameters.
Every year I try to reset all my computer stuff - for example I will move everything into folders appended with "2019". My default download folder will be empty. My images folder will be empty. My projects, and emails, and documents, and audio, and everything will be emptied. And I will gradually sort out all those "2019" folders, or not (if it's not important, then it will remain unsorted).
There will be a very defined "before" and "after" 2020-01-01.
If I really had my shit together I'd make the bold move to Gnu-Linux (and 100% FLOSS). That may yet happen, in a month or few - but not quite yet. Though maybe I should try harder to make it happen - as a whole lifestyle switch. I have yet to start up my Mint Mate and actually feel at home.
I don't buy into resolutions, nor do I make them. Yet, I've made one. For the last decade I've been consuming information and not producing much. I intend to flip that paradigm - though I'm still not quite sure how I can break all my good and bad habits to make room for the new ones. Suggestions very welcome.
As far as the rest of my life goes, I'm very limited by my means. It's not a complaint, just a fact. And maybe it's a not so good excuse. I'm open to changing my lifestyle too somehow but I can't see how quite yet. Already this year I started by walking 4 miles to a hardware store to get tools and supplies. I'm slowly building little things. Initially these things took a long time, but as I've learned the nature of the medium I've sped up significantly. Unfortunately I burned out on it making presents for Xmas. Also this year, I've been regularly walking a couple miles to the grocery store, rather than the closer drug store limited with shitty frozen food. I can't even recall the last fast food I've had. That's not because I'm healthy - it's so I can afford the hardware store visit. I also got active in my local Green Party this year. Baby steps I guess, with momentum...
Last year, on May 1, I bought 3 domains. I had a website from 2000 to 2010 or 2011, and hopefully before 2020-04-01, I will host another, if only to be a sort of home base and hub for the projects that I will be producing (and sharing via SaidIt and other social media).
Stay 'tooned.
