I believe it's something else. Ellen had a problematic history for her show since the beginning. Complaints can be found years, years ago regarding sexism and racism. She was untouchable, and most if not all the complaints were brushed under the rug. It was usually always the gay men and black people/employees who would often file these complaints, or speak openly about mistreatment. Now with BLM, the studio was rumored to have been made aware an article was going to be published by former black employees. They were warned and I think the studio wanted to get ahead of the curve by saying, "we're looking into it" before it got too out of hand.

Gay men will often call out crappy behavior of those in their flock. I feel like lesbians we're either more afraid to admit when someone of our kind is doing wrong or we simply just want to bury it.
