LOL I love that they can't decide if this is a valid problem or not.

Oh, the irony of them complaining about linguistic erasure phrased as inclusivity. Bed, made, lie, dumbasses. The revolution has turned 360 degrees.

That has to be one of the most tragically comic threads I've ever seen. There is just so much material there! A couple of my favorite parts included the person who talked about feelings of erasure (you know, the very same issue JK brought up with the dropping of the word "woman", for which she's been pilloried - their smooth brains just cannot forge the connections needed to see the similarity). Another part was the one who whined about it being "white cishet" people using "them", because as we all know if you add "white" or "cis" to your lament it gains you extra oppression points...even if you yourself are white or cis.

Special shout out to the poster who whined that none of his partner's (a female) coworkers were fluctuating enough between pronouns for her: "What’s weird is my partner uses she/they/he but they only use agab pronouns for her." Holy shit, the sheer ego and narcissism with these creeps! They just cannot fathom that other people have waaaaay better things to do than try and remember when the last time "he" was used for this person and to adjust accordingly. Just wow.

God, I hope this little asshole's office mates keep this up. Revolutions can begin small.

NGL it would annoy me to be called 'they' 🤣 but the poetic justice is brilliant

I'd be happy to be called 'they' if this was a deliberate strategy of malicious compliance by the co-workers, which I think it might be.

Definitely feels like it, and I fully support it. These attention whores decided to make 3rd person pronouns a hill to die on, and try to force the rest of us to play their neverending game of "constantly think about pronouns" instead of just using the basic rules we learned from birth, so congratulations on these execs for finding the perfect malicious compliance way around it. This one freak wants to be a special snowflake and demand irregular pronouns, then everyone gets the neutral one from now on.

And of course they tell on themselves that once again it's always about "validation" a.k.a. their extreme narcissism. I've maintained for years that the only people who could possibly give a shit what 3rd person pronouns someone uses for them are narcissists, and every time they get uppity like this, it confirms it further.

My work is trying to do everything gender neutral too. I watched this one video where a non binary woman instructed viewers to not use gendered language at all. My one takeaway was instead of "nieces and nephews" to use "niblings." I'm serious. Her entire demeanor was of a Kindergarten teacher trying to make sure everyone HAD A GREAT FIRST DAY AT CLASS, it was the most patronizing bullshit.

Niblings, my ass. You think if I go up to someone and ask if they have "niblings" they will even know what the fuck I am talking about?

I have used "they" when I legitimately don't know if I am referring to a man or woman ("Whoever was last in the breakroom, they really made a mess.") That's about it.

Overall, there is a big disconnect between the HR people and the workers.

"Niblings" sounds way too close to "siblings", and ain't nobody got time for that confusion.

What was the reaction of your coworkers to the video? Mine would have been mocking it relentlessly.

This was on-your-own video watching, so I cannot tell. I have seen people do the pronouns on their profile pages, and have also seen some joke pronouns ("Vato")

Overall, there is a big disconnect between the HR people and the workers.

One is the productive force of the company, the other are a bunch of Gender Studies majors who failed into a career as pesudo kingergarden teachers for adults and provide absolutely zero value to anyone.

"I have used "they" when I legitimately don't know if I am referring to a man or woman"

Right. The difference between using "they" when you don't know the person's sex and using "they" when you are only pretending not to know the person's sex is THE difference "they" won't acknowledge.

niblings sound like either muppets or a type of canned corn.

Now that everyone is pretending to be "special" (via they/them), the genderqueers no longer feel so unique as they did before. My heart breaks for these poor little xir/xer's.

One way to end this shit is basically everyone declaring themselves to be non-binary. Because when you think long enough you will easily conclude 99% of society could be considered non-binary and you're not special for not being hyperfocused on your maleness/femaleness and having a personality besides for that.

Syndrome Voice: And when everyone's non-binary, no one will be!

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Most of the time default they/them is good. The only time it isn't is usually with binary trans people who have fought to have their pronouns be the ones that match their gender, in which case it's more validating to use the binary pronoun option.

So you can call everyone except a transgender person "they".

I also hate that a bunch of cishet white people at work are deciding how the language should shift directly against my wishes
