Heartbreaking but incredible article. TLDR: young lesbian woman still identifies as a transman but stopped taking puberty blockers after 4 years after they wrecked her body. Article and comments are generally LGB-supportive. General common characteristics of young female transitioners are discussed.

Fortunately, she had supportive family members:

One of the saddest parts to me is that it sounds like she basically has no sexual function or attraction anymore. Talk about a eugenics movement... LGB and GNC people getting transed means that there's less gay sex and it's also less likely that we'll biologically reproduce (e.g. lesbian women getting sperm donation, bisexuals in opposite-sex relationships, etc.).

Thank you for this, Rellie... I mean, because it's vital that we know what's going on in Trans-Land, of course-- but god! It's so sad. That people-- YOUNG people, with, as the saying goes, their whole life ahead of them-- are being put through this hell... and for NO REASON that I can see! You can't even call it a "mistake", can you? Which would be bad enough right there! But this... ANYONE should know better! It's preschooler "logic" that these EDUCATED ADULT PROFESSIONALS are operating on! "What makes you a girl or boy is the clothes you wear, the activities you like, your favorite color..." GENDER, in other words. But of course little kids would think like that-- they don't know what "sex" (in either sense of the word) IS yet! So they go on what's evident to a 3-year-old! But why the hell are GROWNUPS-- college graduates, fer chrissakes!-- doing the same??? I DON'T GET IT

Ideological indoctrination and internalized homophobia are what almost did it for me (albeit as a very young adult). I would add internalized sexism and "GNC-phobia," if there is such a phrase to describe that phenomenon, to the mix.

Another phrasing of the same thing Helen Joyce said.

The lack of decent research and misrepresentation of findings mean gender affirmation cannot even be described as a risky experiment on children, since "experiment" implies someone, somewhere, is tracking outcomes and comparing them with other options.

The vast majority of children referred by the Tavistock for hormone blockers continued with their transition once they became eligible at 18, but how they are getting on remains unclear as the clinic did not collect the data

Well,colour me surprised. Patient follow up is essential for the evaluation of a treatment,how in seven hells are they still allowed to operate?
