A few years ago when he came out, his deeply homophobic parents reacted horribly, and one of them got a heart attack after he told them. That parent did not survive, and he blamed himself for their death.

That was definitely not your cousin's fault. If that parent got a heart attack over his or her son being gay, then I have no sympathy for that person. The cousin did nothing wrong when he came out to his parents.

And yeah, that is definitely sad. And his untimely death is a warning that trans-related medications can be lethal. This case is also why medical health professionals should make sure that the person who wants to transition genuinely wants to transition, and not because of internalised homophobia or some fetish. If only there were people around your cousin, telling him that it wasn’t his fault that his parent died, and that it is okay to be a gay man. Not saying you had to be there, you hardly knew him, but the people who were around him could have at least talked to him.

This affirmation model has got to go.

By the way, what does ROGD stand for?
