They jumped at the possibility of a ban on conversion therapy despite the fact that practices like chemical castration, physical and psychological-aversion techniques, and even black-clad vicars praying away the gay, are for the most part consigned to the history books.

Not surprised, since they think Alan Turing was trans for getting chemically castrated. Its deranged and evil.

Gender-dysphoric children might have underlying mental-health problems, or have suffered sexual abuse, or have real and unanswered concerns about growing up as a member of their sex. They may have autism or have got caught up in social-media videos which appear to explain and give meaning to their difficulties.

Just say gay honey, are you afraid that hetties wouldn't care about gay kids? They don't.

Many children taken down the transition route today would, in the past, have grown up to be lesbian or gay. In this way, conferring a new gender identity on a child actually becomes a form of gay conversion therapy.

It's not many, its almost all. 97.5% of them grow up to be gay, to be exact.

they also do not want consenting adults to be able to opt to undergo gay conversion therapy. Yet again we see how today’s woke activists risk turning back the clock on the gains of earlier liberation movements. Denying gay adults the capacity to talk to whoever they want to about whatever they want is discriminatory, it denies gay people their agency and infantilises them in the eyes of the law.

I do not think this is a bad thing. Its like pushing people into suicide because not doing that would "infantilise" them. State can ban people from committing harm, including to themselves.

Edit to Clarify: Conversion therapy is torture. Torture is banned by many agreements, and go against the principles of the human rights. You can not 'consent' to torture, as much as you can not consent to sell yourself to slavery. You can not forgo of your human rights, even if you do not want them. Lets keep things that way.

Respectfully disagree. If you can consent -- as an adult -- to BDSM then you can consent -- as an adult -- to extreme versions of conversion therapy. I'm not interested in either one, but I respect another adult person's right to attempt to change their sexual orientation if that is what they feel they need to do.

It doesn’t actually work, though, at least from what I could find. Even though psychotherapy isn’t a hard science we can still track the efficacy of different treatments, and if the evidence doesn’t support their use it’s unethical to continue to practice them. That’s just charlatanism.
