I do not think this is a bad thing. Its like pushing people into suicide because not doing that would "infantilise" them. State can ban people from committing harm, including to themselves.

Edit to Clarify: Conversion therapy is torture. Torture is banned by many agreements, and go against the principles of the human rights. You can not 'consent' to torture, as much as you can not consent to sell yourself to slavery. You can not forgo of your human rights, even if you do not want them. Lets keep things that way.

Respectfully disagree. If you can consent -- as an adult -- to BDSM then you can consent -- as an adult -- to extreme versions of conversion therapy. I'm not interested in either one, but I respect another adult person's right to attempt to change their sexual orientation if that is what they feel they need to do.

It doesn’t actually work, though, at least from what I could find. Even though psychotherapy isn’t a hard science we can still track the efficacy of different treatments, and if the evidence doesn’t support their use it’s unethical to continue to practice them. That’s just charlatanism.
