Laws that legitimise violent reactions to that disclosure still exist. In the U.S., 46 states still allow the ‘trans panic defense’ — when someone (usually a cisgender man) is charged with murder of a trans person (usually transfeminine), they can claim the violence was prompted by being told that 'that woman has a penis' or 'used to be a man.'

This claim pisses me off so bad. They phrase it as if those states proactively allow this as an excuse for murder which is completely false. All those laws do is prevent a person from literally saying it in court. Otherwise the person is free to say it which is effectively admitting to murder. It doesn't change the outcome, it just acts as a form of thought police. they think that passing a law like this literally edits people's brains to believe they are real women.
