I watched England's women play the US in rugby union and it was certainly something. An 89-0 victory to England with 15 tries scored. It was just complete domination on almost every level, practically every US lineout was stolen, the scrum was the only area where they looked competitive and too many of the tries were scored in a too similar manner, a line break followed by outpacing any defenders with a fairly simple diagonal run. But above all the English team looked about how you'd expect a rugby team to look, like they all had fairly typical physiques for their positions. But the US team just had a few players that you simply can't afford to have at this level, their props looked like men's props from back in the 80s, where all you needed was weight. And their left winger had like no muscle at all, she was tall, but she was a string bean

TIL we have a women's rugby team. I sure they don't have much of a talent pool at all to draw from. Sound like England has their act together.

They're sixth in the world apparently. The men's team for comparison are 18th. As far as I can see the big problem with the women's game as things stand is there's currently a big gap between the decent teams and everyone else and the only really consistently decent teams are England and New Zealand, with France fast making ground. In the men's game you at least have around ten teams that can probably put a fair fight up against each other

Rugby's limited to the former British Colonies, mostly, right? Softball had this same problem when it was in the Olympics. It's a massive sport in the U.S., and basically nowhere else. Australia was the only country that even gave us a hard time.

My guess would be it's a contact sport girls don't play in most places, too. American Football is partially based on Rugby, iirc, and girls don't play it here- boys only.

Plus France, Italy, Argentina & Japan. Then there are teams that are better than you'd think, but still pretty shit in the grand scheme of things like Georgia & Romania
