A number of the comments in the article arguably also can be applied to the installation of the coloured stripes over the poor old zebra crossing. example:

"it's obviously been vandalised by individuals that feel that it doesn't represent them".

Beyond the waste of taxpayers money, it seems odd to use a crossing for this, that's designed to be recognised and understood by road users, who have a lot to pay attention to and process, in order to minimise their chances of having accidents that result in injury and death. If the council really must blow money on this stuff, why not pay for a billboard, paint a bin or something?

edit: Also I completely agree about using a billboard or trash can instead. A crosswalk actually has a functional purpose, and like you said, we don't need more things that distract drivers from driving...

Examples:

Absolutely iresponsible by the council, totally irelivent, danger to pedestrians and drivers alike! Allready had enough with the "Woke" brigade on the M25, leave the roads alone and plant more trees!

can we find out which councillors voted for these crossings so we can vote them out? These crossings are a total of waste of £55k+, and they're terrible for blind people (guide dogs are confused by them) and elderly people. Lithuania banned them this year as they were linked to accidents

Absolutely wrong that councils should waste money on these rainbow crossing at tax payers expense. Gay community represent about 1.5% of Uk population. These crossing represent what is offensive to other members of the community too. As a once Christian country im saddened at the presence of these. Its not what you and i think is right or wrong. Its against what God has provided for man and women. GENESIS chap2 v21 and Romans chap1 v26. Scripture hasnt changed.

I'm gay and I think they're a waste of time, that rainbow flag has been hijacked by intolerant authoritarians and I feel sick every time i see it now.

I assume the council has decided that getting woke cookies, is more important that taking the needs of disabled people into consideration? Would anyone on the council like to explain to my autistic child why it doesn’t matter that she will refuse to cross it, as it’s ‘the wrong colour’ or she finds it overwhelming, as the colours are too busy? Would you like to explain to blind people that the fact that it confuses some of the dogs, thus putting them at risk of injury or worse, is really way down your list of priorities. The needs of the disabled in your community, trampled over by the wants of others. If anyone is injured as a result of you ‘vandalising’ the crossings, I hope they sue the backside off the council. You’ve been told how it affects the disabled, so pleading ignorance won’t protect you.

Total waste of money, I'd rather take my chances with the traffic then use that sort of crossing anyway. Fair play to the vandals I say
