This is the problem with valuing cheap virtue signalling over meaningful representation. You place so much importance on the virtue signalling that you stop paying attention to what actually matters.

That's a very good point actually, I hadn't considered that.

However even if actual representation was the issue at hand it would never be enough. If a AAA video game had a gay or lesbian character (The Last of Us?) I have no doubt that there would be shrill calls about why they weren't twans or KwEer enough. If people aren't walking stereotypes it's 'erasure'.

It's not enough to have LGB representation. Remember, "cis" gay men are one step away from the bottom tier of woke politics from heterosexuals. They have to look and be sufficiently queer and oppressed, as well as have a few disabilities, be trans, have wild hair color, be visibly obese, etc.
