In my country, you only get help from the government if you are actively applying and searching for a new job. (Unless you are on medical leave or something like it.) That way, people gets help but only during the period when they can't earn an income any other way.

In Germany, social welfare (dole) lasts only for six months. Then you’re on your own. In Switzerland, you only get dole if you can’t work, and nobody can take care of you. If it’s a case that you’re just too lazy to work, and your family won’t fund your lifestyle, then you get the dole, but your name and address is going on a list that is displayed publicly in your town’s Main Street.

Damn, Swiss....don't they know that lazy-shaming causes so many self esteem issues leading to psychological problems and employment dysphoria ? It is literally violence.
