They want to be part of a group that is perceived by society as victimized but not actually victimized that much by society.

And I think this is the thing, they are teens that want to feel special, part of a community, and crave attention, the way teens do regularly. But now subcultures are basically dead, or I feel it’s seen as a bit lame to be part of one, like emos that are made fun of a lot these days as well.
