The more we hide the less examples we set to actually be happy in your own skin to the younger ones: none of the nonbinary and whatever genders seem to manage that, and I don’t mean it to make fun. They’re identities of deep seated insecurity, anxiety, trauma, and the desire to both stick out and opt in. Many will grow out of it and wish they could never say the words again. It’s demoralizing, but us existing at least somewhat openly is helpful.
