Maybe don't refer to homosexuals as "gays". It's really condescending at best, disrespectful at worst. And honestly I don't think many actually are. Just the "woke" ones obsessed with being morally pure. I'd wager that, in all people regardless of orientation, most people would not date/have sex with a trans person.

It is not. Let's calm down.

It is. Just because you might be okay with it doesn't mean everyone else is. I'm okay with being called a "faggot" but do you think that gives me the right to go around calling whoever I please that word?

I literally didn't think anything of it. OP, there will be sensitive people everywhere. I don't give a shit what you call gay people. Homosexuals, gay, gays, lesbians, I don't care.

So it's okay for me to refer to all homosexuals as "Queers" or "faggots"?

If you answered "no", how come those words are bad and unacceptable to apply to everyone but "gays" is perfectly fine? How come it's okay to use ONE condescending and insulting term but not others?

Thanks! here gay is completely normal, whereas in both america and here the other words he's suggested are highly offensive, have a history of being highly offensive. Seen it and heard it from my friends, including "homos" and "homosexual" is super medical.

At least "gay" originally meant a bachelor and was also a synonym for happy, instead of that slur "queer" that was used to terrorize men to go to Vietnam. I hate the word "queer". Might as well say "perv" or "weirdo". Weirdo pride!

Also, I believe absent gender indoctrination, same sex desire is accessible to anyone; it is not a genetic condition. That doesn't mean everyone will develop a taste for it but the most glaring, primary reason it is avoided is because nations universally condemn it (even the ones that accept it now).

Well I think I am more repulsed by "gay" than "queer." At least "queer" meant weird. I do feel weird, and I don't feel happy. So don't call me "gay" or "happy" and dump that "happiness, rainbows, flamboyancy and humiliating funny acts to entertain people like a clown" bullshit on me because that's never what being homosexual was about for me. It's a very dark place and trying to sugarcoat it with this rainbows and happiness nonsense, especially when it's honestly all so fake and insincere and literally just exists to use homosexuals for entertainment or profit, is sickening.

I don't care if others want to call themselves "The gays", I am just asking it not be used as a "blanket term" like "queer" because not all of us like that. If you wouldn't refer to homosexuals as "queers" or "the faggots" don't call them "the gays" either. Gay is not a noun.

Faggot is okay but gays isn't? Fucking weird man.

You're missing the point. It's about not using words that are considered offensive or controversial to refer to THE ENTIRE FUCKING GROUP.

If you would not refer to all homosexuals as "The faggots" or "The queers", don't call them "The gays." We all have different opinions on this. Some people think "queer" is quite hurtful, others (like me) just find it condescending and think it's associated with pretentious bullshit, and don't want to be associated with it for that reason.

Likewise, some people think being referred to "teh gays XD" and being associated with obnoxious memes like "yassss queen" and "sksksksk WIG" is hilarious and harmless, but some of us find it condescending, annoying, and offensive.

These words are subjective. Just because YOU are okay with it doesn't mean everyone else is and that you should use it as a "blanket term."

Just because some people "reclaimed" queer doesn't mean they get to call everyone queer.

Just because I am not offended by "faggot" doesn't mean it's appropriate for me to refer to all homosexuals as "The faggot community."

Just because YOU are okay with "the gays" doesn't mean that people won't be hurt by being referred to as "gays."

Use common sense. It's not hard.

So you don't think "Don't call a group of people a rude term and then act surprised when they meet you with hostility" is common sense?

Complete idiot...

Once again. We've come full circle because you can't have a coherent argument.

Gay is not an offensive term.

"The gays" is an offensive term, because it's objectifying.

"Gay" itself is slang, and is not offensive, but it is ridiculous in my opinion. (And those of us who don't like it should be respected. I'm not happy, don't call me a synonym for happy.) The problem is when it's used as a noun, which isn't only grammatically incorrect, it is reducing a person to not only their homosexuality, but stereotypes associated with it. Nobody says "The gays" when they are casually discussing homosexuals in a benign context, eg discussing whether or not they can get married. It is pretty much exclusively used in stereotypical and demeaning contexts.

It's not, and "objectifying" itself is a Marxist rooted term. Just be aware of that next time you're just echoing empty platitudes you heard online.

Oh my god, some mean people use it in a mean way so ergo you can't refer to the demographics as "gays". That is such a low IQ take dude.
