Yeah, I reckon a lot of this would make sense if you'd grown up in the 50s or 60s. Times were different, now we have totally different ideas about how women can be women and how relationships exist. Like, if you were a super butch / gnc girl I suppose there were limited roles in which you could see yourself and carve out an identity. I guess they were just working with what they had at the time. Now we have different options on the table and people are happy to be more flexible with gender roles and relationship dynamics.
