I am a slightly butch lesbian and I will say that I haven't had the best experiences with healthcare. I don't go to the doctor's that often but when I do, I make sure to dress more feminine. I have noticed if I dress more butch I tend to be dismissed. I feel like the worst experiences I have had are with female providers. I hate to say that. I feel like they are very apathetic and condescending. The worst PAP smear I ever had was from a female GYN and she made me bleed. It was horrible. Probably TMI but I have really horrible periods and my provider was basically like you can take birth control or continue to have horrible periods. I explained to her that birth control made me very depressed (I do not have depression at baseline) and she was like well there's nothing I can do for you. I do feel like the healthcare system really fails women and minorities whether they are straight, bi, gay, or other. Science tends to use white men for their research studies and apply that information to everyone.

Also, I really hate being called queer. I know I need to get over it because "we reclaimed" that word but when I was bullied, that was the slur of choice thrown at me.
