I cannot stand that meme format... It's so... "uwu twans women awe women." I don't understand why they always use anime drawings to represent themselves...

They use anime pictures because if they used their real pictures everyone would see the absurdity because they would look like men in dresses not ~kweer gals~ and the whole house of cards would come tumbling down. I really think so much of the TRA movement depends on the internet and social media interactions and relationships, so people can present what they want and bombard people with pseudointellectual tumblr word salad and is just very performative.

Excellent point. Cartoons and anime characters represent what they wish that they looked like: cute, little, young girls.

A picture of a 6”2, square-jawed, Adam’s apple looking dude (with a choker necklace) does not quite square with their imagined selves.

That was my general sense of it. I think you're right about the internet. That's also probably why "gender identity" crises are skyrocketing during quarantine... It's all just a performance to stroke their ego and feed their libido...

It’s so creepy when people have a cartoon character for their profile pic on social media like it’s basically signaling they have low self esteem or look really gross

I use my own cartoon character because I have a strict policy of never posting images of myself online. It keeps me safe from clients and weirdo fanboys that could recognize me IRL, as I send physical objects to clients so my general location is known.

That makes sense, but that's still a cartoon character of you, as opposed to something from a show. Good point though.

Well... it's only sort of my own character. But she's a purple alien XD;;;

There is something about anime that brings out the worst in weird people.

Serious question: I’m curious as to your thoughts why this might be. I don’t understand it.

To make things clear, I don't see anything inherently wrong with anime. I used to watch it regularly. Sometimes I watch it on the odd occasion. Most people aren't negatively affected it, as long as children only watch anime that is suitable for their age group, like with movies and western tv programmes.

However, there are some people out there who fetishise anime, believing that looking like an anime character would make their lives better and make them sexier. They see the world in anime cliches, act in what they stereotypically believe to be Japanese behaviour, and engage in weird sexual behaviour through a yuri/yaoi lens. These people become obsessed with anime, like it's a hard drug. And they do unhealthy things. It's not easy for me to explain, but browsing through DeviantArt will make you see what I'm talking about.

Thanks for responding, it makes sense.

I'm not who you asked but I have a theory socially awkward men are into anime because the girls tend to be very sweet, innocent, simple and "docile". They can't imagine girls like that being mean or rejecting them. Real women with autonomy and complexities intimidate or frustrate them. I'd rather they jerk off to hentai and cuddle with their waifu pillows than bring a gun to campus so thanks anime <3

Because they are so detached from the reality. Their inspiration is rarely a real grown up woman who isn't a pornstar.

i know right? i fucking hate that meme format. and it's worse for me because i know the character and the game she's from has literally nothing to do with them. they probably use anime drawings to represent themselves because of the unrealistic life they want is shown in anime all the time.
