There are some interesting stories on the detrans sub about situations like this. Guys who like the attention of being female, but aren't trans. I was reading about a guy who felt completely misled by psychologists who instantly told them they were trans and pushed for transition for occsionally dressing up, when it really turned out to be more of a kink. Sounds pretty similar to your situation.

This is...eerily similar. Almost on the nose in the first half. I do fear that if he were to get therapy, it would only be a therapist who would try to push the gender dysphoria in him ( not that I want them to lie to him that he doesn't have it if he does). I want it to be genuine, not feeding him what could be lies or misdiagnosing him which would lead him to a path where it'd be scary difficult to come back from.

I've been listening to some of Abigail Shrier's book about the transexual craze at the moment, and in her research it sounds like A LOT of therapists are very scared to lose their license because of stupid requirements for dealing with gender matters. It's not that they'll lie and tell him he doesn't have it, it's that they'll amlost certainly call any sort of tendancy towards the other gender 'dyphoria' and be pushing him towards transition.
