Might be a pi day joke, since pi goes on forever so doesn't expire? But area of a circle is finite, some certain number.

Mozilla might have picked that date with your idea in mind. It is ironic that they broadcast a deadline to update, but pi is forever, and the last day they chose is the approximation for pi.

A circle they have no control over, a big circle observed by all mankind, is the moon. There is a total lunar eclipse, a blood moon, also on 3.14 ~ The date is significant. u/Drewski posted about the blood moon.

Of course, the moon is a sphere, but appears as a complete circle when it is full, as will be seen on pi (π) day, colored like blood. It is the handy work of God the Creator and He set it there to be a sign of the times.
