I guess that they should wait until you get docker working so that they can more easily install the server, right?

nah, for dev work and a demo it's good to go. use ubuntu14 in a VM and it works fine.

but yeah for production it's kinda sketch to use something that old. you have to find a web host that lets you install any image too, because no one is offering new ubuntu14 installs anymore.

And there could be known vulnerabilities in an OS that old, which gets no new security updates.*

this is now fixed. it was an SSL compatibility issue. Now when you run the installer, it first upgrades your python.
