Everything's killing you. The question you have to ask yourself is, which way do you want to go?

This article is talking about the dangers of vinyl chloride, but my concern is actually the phthalates used as a plasticizer in PVC, and possibly some of the other additives. I am surprised it is not mentioned.
Because they are not chemically bonded to the host plastics, phthalates are released from the plastic article by relatively gentle means. For example, they can be removed by heating or by extraction with organic solvents.
I think it's pretty much guaranteed phthalates are leeching out, and they act like estrogen and cause a number of health issues.

You think that’s safe?

Polypropylene is not the worst choice, it still has chemical leeching potential. But I don't know what other options there are, every water filter I have seen has some plastic in it, and most are all plastic.
Not sure how much it matters if it's traveling through plastic pipe anyways. I'm back to using my plastic water filter, the tap water just tastes bad. But now I get it out and move it into glass to chill in the fridge. It's not perfect, but contact time is a factor.
My ideas at this point are to purchase a glass or steel cylinder and fill it with filtering stones/sands/sediment of varying sizes along with activated charcoal and just change out the layers as needed (particularly the charcoal). It's like how the ground filters water naturally, or getting glass labware to distill water and adding back in minerals. The first option doesn't get everything, the second is a pain in the ass.
Sorry, just kind of spit balling. I don't have a fantastic solution here. Sure would like access to a nice clean spring or well and not have to fuck with it at all.

I think you are right. A self filtering system, maybe that is fed from rain water. That appears to be the proper solution.

You can get overwhelmed and ignore it, which is what they hope you'll do.
However, you need to be as self-sufficient as possible and aware of stuff like this so that you can limit your exposure to bad shit. Do the best you can, but accept that you might miss something and still end up with cancer or screw up your DNA for future generations.

Oh its not just the lead pipes? Now I am even more glad I am not drinking tap water. Fluoride and forever chemiclas just aren't bad enough huh. Thank you industrial poison capitalism!

Yep, we're being fucked. I dunno how they can teach generations of kids the decline of the Roman Empire was partially because of lead pipes and never mention the US has a ton of lead pipes, and now plastics leeching poison and chemicals that act as synthetic hormones.

Check out the bone char type of filters. They filter out the fluoride too.

Fucking retards. This is
the same logic as being afraid of table salt because it has both sodium and chlorine in it

I can understand that, but my main concern with plastics isn't mentioned in this article unfortunately, the phthalate plasticizers that mimick estrogen aren't chemically bonded to the plastic and can leech out.

Why not write it up and submit it to your favorite press outlet?

I guess I just assumed nobody would publish it, but that's not a bad idea. Can't hurt to try.
