But somehow feminism becomes more normalized the more it drifts away from actual women's benefit and more towards men's.

The word "feminism" still isn't popular in my country (in SE Asia) because of this. There are women who we celebrate as national heroes (heroines?) for dedicating their lives fighting for women's rights, but we don't call them "feminists" ever. I have never met any local woman who call herself a feminist. SWIW, legalizing prostitution and extreme kinks under the guise of women's sexual empowerment only make feminism's bad rep worse.

Culturally, mainstream "feminism" isn't gonna fly here, unless for some people who think anything that comes from the west is superior. I'd say our view about women's rights pretty much aligned with radfem.
