Great article! I can't believe that the only places reporting sense on this topic are conservative outlets like The Federalist. There's a particularly good passage describing the NYT's recent articles in which trans & NB people complained that COVID lockdowns & restrictions deprived them of audiences to perform their gender charades in front of, & reduced the number of social interactions in which they get their jollies by constantly monitoring other people's speech & facial expressions in anticipation of possible slights like wrong pronoun use or funny looks:

These reflections are heartbreaking. Not only do they signal the amount of energy that some queer people derive from policing the perceptions of others and the apparent pleasure this may afford them, but it exposes the emptiness of finding one’s identity in finding one’s identity.

That’s all this futile pursuit truly boils down to. In rejecting the scientific sex binary in favor of amorphous and transient gender theory, a trans person’s identity doesn’t just become the opposite sex or an association with its pronouns. Rather, his or her identity becomes the lifelong task of asserting that their identity is not what you think.

Nailed it! Except that whilst the revelations of these "folx" are heartbreaking, at the same time they are utterly ridiculous. These are people whose whole life is focused on narcissistic nonsense, & who get a perverse pleasure from feeling that others have done them wrong. They see the world through bruise-colored glasses.

I loved that part too. I am so baffled by how few people around me see it. So many have bought into grievance ideology and seem unable to view the world through any other lens.
