"I was called Sir for some obscure reason" !!!!!!!!! I would not call him Sir. Sir is a term of respect. I'd call him "You keep your distance, Mister"!

Mister

By his actions, it is more like "Take away this thing from me" than "Sir" or "Mister".

Very rarely do people get called sir or ma'am in the UK. The couple of times I've seen TRA here alleging insults happened this way is been a misheard "sorry", which is said a lot.

“Mister”? Please. Still too formal. Go with “buckaroo” or “bub” or “busterino”.
