I'm really worried the direction the Supreme Court is taking us with the birth control ruling. :( However, the ruling about the TIM is actually a good thing for women. The ruling essentially states that women and men cannot be fired for performing behaviors and fashion choices condoned in employees of their opposite sex. Therefore it is sex discrimination to fire, lets say, a butch lesbian whose gender leans toward masculine fashion choices. It was a enforcement of sex-based rights, not a ruling in favor of males.

This ruling on birth control though... I got chills when I saw this when I woke up today. I have a feeling the conservative side of the SC is going to start ramming rulings through because Trump's time is almost up. This may be just the beginning. :(

I read the opinions and the amicis on the adflegal site. Yes I know they are total fundies but they also are the muscle behind all the SCOTUS and high-level cases fighting TRAs.

The situation wasn't just about Stephens wanting to wear a dress and be called "Aimee." It was about customers not being compelled to accept "Aimee" in their bathroom and worry about what pronouns to use to avoid triggering "her" dainty triggers when in fact someone in their immediate family is dead. The funerary staff's relationship with grieving families is really singular at that point, at that point they're like professional counselors/BFFs and NO I'm not putting up with calling someone who looks like my BF "Aimee" and making little smiley faces at "her" putting on ipstick or adjusting her wig in the bathroom. Or calling me out for a bigot because I don't want this. It is totally legal for me to walk out as a customer, which I suspect many would.

Yeah, I have zero problem with what people wear and welcome men in dresses. However, I used to write materials for funeral home clients and they repeatedly stressed that the materials had to be super bland and basic - because grieving people need simplicity as their reading comprehension is typically lower than normal. They can be dazed, in shock, overwhelmed with emotion, unable to make simple choices, and can shut down at the first sign of contention (a family fight or old feud) or any kind of controversy. And they don't want older relatives or children asking loud questions or causing disruption. So funeral home staff tend to master this kind of low-key, gentle assistance where they dress conservatively and speak in low voices. It's the last place for drama and confusion or redirecting attention to a staff member. A reasonable person would grasp that and save "Aimee time" for after hours.

Religious right believes it's "God's will" to punish women via childbirth, servitude, misery, poverty, suffering "due to the fall of Eve". Once you recognize the fact they truly believe this, their behavior "makes sense".

Where are the transwomen in all this? What do they care, it will increase their likelihood to get jobs previously offered to women. Employers won't want to hire women who might get pregnant.

On the other hand, this might allow employers to deny covering sex reassignment treatment .
