GTA 6 to feature series' first woman protagonist - and be more 'sensitive'

I have nothing against adding the option to play a female character, could be fun. Not so sure about "more sensitive" though... Aren't you supposed to be a hardened criminal who is, at best, indifference to running over pedestrians and such?

The issue isn't the female character, it's that Rockstar is going woke. They've already removed jokes insensitive to transgender women in GTA 5 and are reforming the party culture of the company.

I feel peak Rockstar was GTA3, so I don't really personally care. I haven't played GTA5 since the first year it was out. Some of the most fun content was exploiting bugs like making custom colored cars that Rockstar stamped out with quickness, while ignoring far more important issues.

Maybe it got better but I feel Rockstar had been going in the wrong direction already, and although this doesn't seem better, at least it's a change.

I agree but it also got me wondering: Could GTA3:SA exist today? Is it woke for having a black cast, or is it 'problematic' because it portrays black people as the stereotypical thugs and gang-members?

I think blacks are proud of the gang associations. The real reason I think you wouldn't see a game like that anymore is that it's too hard.

    Yeah, that's a good point. Ten or fifteen years ago I would have thought nothing of a game having a female protagonist. Nowadays, even though I still don't have a problem with that in itself, it would would tend to make me suspicious.

    Way I see it it's the same as Hollywood floating female 007 or female ghost busters or BBC floating female Doctor Who.

    It's been done for years and it's not a problem with the protagonist being female. It's just a clear sign that they've run out of ideas and are scraping the bottom of the barrel to try to find something to keep their stale property relevant. Once they start doing the gender swap type story lines or whatever it's almost always going to end up becoming trite sexist stereotypes and embarrassingly bad plots and acting where they desperately try to make the show seem fresh but changing the gender of the protagonist doesn't actually do anything interesting.

    There's loads of great movies and shows out there with female protagonist. There's loads of great games out there with female protagonists. But once you get to the point of "hey what if Mario was the one who was kidnapped and the princess has to save him" (and yes that happened and it was shit) level of just swapping the rolls around, you know it's gonna be bad.

    GTA has always been heavy on the parody and mockery, with a layer of extreme violence generously applied. Two key examples, from V, are the Republican Space Rangers and Impotent Rage in-game cartoon characters. And none of the main characters have, to my knowledge, ever been good guys.

    Making it "more sensitive" would be like making South Park politically correct, it entirely voids the original point.
