Or - there were only redheads when these cartoons were illustrated (sometimes by Jewish illustrators, so go figure), though now there are no more redheads, and the only available actors are of color.

Interesting - perhaps Russian redheads that far inland were partly expelled Jews from various European states in the late medieval and early modern period, whereas I had thought redheads were mainly Celto-Germanic. Thant said, Celto-Germanic groups extended into Eastern European / Slavic areas.
