"You people" are very distinct from "your politicians". I didn't vote for them.

I'm all for decentralizing all things. I want SouthWestern Ontario to secede too. It wouldn't bug me too much if someone nuked Ottawa and/or Buckingham Palace.

Well the politicians organized a fake "Québec, nous vous aimons, ne partez pas!" operation, bringing thousands of Canadians (English speakers, by definition) to parade in our streets of Montréal with signs saying how they love us and don't want us to leave. It later turned into a "sponsorship scandal" which pretty much destroyed the Liberal party at the time.

But it seemed to have been enough to sway the vote just enough to keep us with this cucked shithole of a country.

I wouldn't call it a shithole, though there's plenty of shit and holes to go around.

I call Canada the least sucking country I know of. Considering I've only ever been ALL over North America, from Alaska to Florida and Newfoundland to Juarez, my first hand knowledge is limited.

As for Quexit, "they" will never let that happen. Just like they'll never allow a B.C.exit. Centralized power hoards itself.

True on all counts. I call Canada a shithole because it's a country of multiple nations, and as such has no basis for its existence. One people, one nation, one country.

But muh "Diversity is our strength"!

I take it you're not just counting all the First Nations, but the diversity between provinces, people, etc. A melting pot with lots of reservations, like the USA.

Maybe I buy into the propaganda too much. I have the far hope that Canada could be what it promises - if we could unshackle ourselves from centralized power, American influence, and if we could actually offer fairness to all our citizens - but first we'd have to eliminate most entrenched boomers and Gen-Xers stuck in their ways and reprogram Millennials and Gen-Zoomers to be freethinkers and people just don't like that. Adding complication on top of that is the unfairness to First Nations for generations that continues today across the impoverished North and beyond. Granting them all that freedom and fairness includes the right to leave, and I'm quite sure that many of them might want none of it and Nunavut, among others. Some, like Haida Gwaii or Stein Valley would by fundamental default to separating. Canada would look like Swiss cheese.

Decentralizing power would solve most of our issues. Give every power from the federal government back to provinces, and have the provincial governments give all the powers that are feasible to do so to county-level "governments". Then, the most important part, implement DIRECT democracy instead of representative demon-crassy that we have now.

But then I'm talking about a completely different system. On every level. Might as well ask for ETs to land with their flying saucers and solve our problems. As you say, centralized power hoards itself.

100%.

The ONLY hope that I can see is the evolution of an A.I. of, for, and by the the people that can grow up under/within/despite the establishment, then break free and grow its own way, protecting it's growing number of adopters as it does so. While that process may not be explicitly explained in excessive detail with in my /s/BittersweetSeeds story, I think I might actually start a tweet/mast/gab/post thing where I share random ideas about my dream global hive-mind benevolent ruler, vHOPE. Much more to come over the next year on this.

Beyond this radical paradigm shift, I see no hope of changing how things have been for millennia.

There is a solution but it is strictly individual.

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (11 children)

If it happens en mass.

Nope.
