I don't really understand the request for it to be a "new and unique virus". And I'm not sure anyone has ever claimed that; it's a particular strain of coronavirus, one that's more potent than its brethren.

It does have to be a new and unique virus, as in, one we have no way to treat. For it to be a REAL pandemic, the virus has to be near unbeatable for the first few waves, then science catches up and finds some way to either 1. cure it, or 2. treat it. That is the history of REAL pandemics. Every sickness a coronavirus can bring to humans is treatable.
