    It's not obvious that you could help me to start with.

    "If a president can pardon himself for federal crimes—as Trump would likely try to do—then he could write his pardon in advance and shoot visitors to the white house" does not mean that he plans to shoot visitors. It means that the legal environment is not set up for a criminal in chief. He would be unconstrained by the law, and this is an example of what he could do, as the wording exactly is.
