Double boiler not broiler to be sure!
And be careful if you decide to use the microwave, that sounds a bit scary. It might help to place a cup of water together with the wax so it absorbs some of the energy & reduce hotspots.

Oh, I didn't mean to combine the wax and water together at all. It's just a trick to place a cup of water in there beside whatever it is you're heating, if the thing you're heating is small or could burn when it gets heated too much.
