I lived in hoods most of my life. Had to earn respect like everyone else, but made a lot of friends and was treated like anyone else living there.

Not American, so these stories send mixed signals. We also hear so many stories of people getting lost in the hood, running into a cop who tells them to get the fuck out of there ASAP and escorts them out.

Yeah it's a lot different if you live there. If you are obviously out of place you are a target. Not just the color of your skin it's because you don't know anybody in the neighborhood, there will be no repercussions if you get robbed.
