I am just depressed to the point that I can't imagine anyone ever enjoying anything anymore.

That really sucks. I was severely depressed for a long time also and am gonna have to be on meds for life to stay normal. I know pills aren't the answer for everyone though, I hope you find what works for you and start feeling better

It should be illegal for any doctor to claim they can "treat depression", because they can't. All they can do is to use you as a lab rat and hope for the best. In fact, they can't even measure whether a given medication is working or not, which says a lot about whether the drugs even ever worked in the first place (self-reported questionnaires are not science).

My existence fluctuates between miserable and very miserable without any outlook for improvement.

My blood work consistently shows deviations, but are not specific enough apparently to come up with a diagnosis. I need research lab equipment to figure out what I have, but humanity prefers me to rot in hell instead. The idea that a plain doctor doesn't have a research lab at their disposal just shows what a fucking piss poor planet this is. (I live in what's supposed to be a modern developed country).

The worst part is that it might just be a case of humanity being too stupid to solve certain medical problems.

They really do just throw pills at you till something sticks. I spent about a year going through a couple different antidepressants and combinations of antidepressants till I got on one that made me noticably manic, then I got diagnosed with bipolar II and switched to a mood stabilizer. It works well, but it sucked getting to that point.

That's really frustrating that they can't figure out a more definitive treatment plan for you when you have actual abnormal blood work. If it's a medical issue and not just self reporting how you feel you would think that would help them with figuring out what's wrong, even without high tech research. That doesn't mean that it won't eventually get sorted out though.

Hang in there
