I don't know much about subies, but if you're talking about a differential, to replace the gears. requires a lot of experience.

There's probly some jewtube videos that will describe what is needed

It's not always a true diff in Subarus with an automatic transmission. Sometimes it's a "multi-plate wet clutch."

That’s what I was thinking it was. Just a differential that takes a driveshaft input and splits it to two driveshaft outputs. I took him to mean he was replacing the whole unit, not cracking it open.

I will replace the viscous coupler with the new clutch since it starts knocking and binding after a long drive. I guess the silicone fluid has gone bad

Like I said, I don’t really know anything about them. Replacing a unit is one thing, cracking it open and replacing internal parts and fluid is something else.

I have a manual with viscous coupler which has now gone bad, after 1h of highway driving it starts to knock and bind up in corners with low speed
