I banned an alt of his because he posted hardcore porn on it (and that's all it had other than spam/troll posts). I did not know whose it was, I simply moderated the porn like I always do. But he's accusing me of singling him out because I don't always ban the spam bots (which is because I've already tried, they have a million spare accounts and losing one of them is no loss).

If you don't ban the spam accounts, but choose to ban porn, when both are against the rules, you are in fact singling people out

I remove both types of content. However, banning sometimes helps in combatting porn, but rarely spam.

    What we learned about the 88 (IronLeft?) group 2 years ago is that they were banned so often (username & IP & posts) that they eventually gave up.

    I thought they left when M7 went on hiatus.

      Out of curiosity were you on reddit a long time? This was literally the first step to them becoming the over censoring entity they are now.

      It went:

      1. Spam

      2. "Spam"

      3. Child Porn

      4. Most porn

      5. Copyrighted material

      6. "Copyrighted material"

      7. Dangerous Misinformation

      8. Dangerous "Misinformation"

      9. Right wing anything

      10. "Right" wing ANYTHING

      As much as I agree the spam is an issue, we have to be very cautious about how we proceed from here. I know this is a slippery slope argument, but that really doesn't mean that it's wrong. It's kind of a genie in the bottle issue, what constitutes spam or a bannable/censorable post will always be rather subjective, and the second mods start banning anything, others will demand more and more be banned/censored. Soon you have a site that isn't a free speech platform again if you are not very VERY selective about what gets banned.

      Also it's really not that much spam. It's bad sure, but it's a lot better to just ignore them at this level and make a cautious attempt to ban them as they appear.

      That was literally her objective. They removed like half the porn subs. Then when they brought Huffman back he rolled those back, but the decision to begin censoring had already been made.

      If you noticed it was at this point that reddit and the entire internet started switching from free porn posted anonymously everywhere to mostly free porn existing as advertising for onlyfans style content.

      You heard it here, everyone. Don't remove spam, CP, or porn. That's subjective, and removing them is a slippery slope to banning everything else.

      For the record, I agree with you on the biased censorship path Reddit went down. I agree with the progression you're sharing. However, I think they did it because they were degenerate sick assholes all along, and so were thousands of users. They were protecting themselves, not free expression.

      Reddit and their CP-addicted fucks manipulated the site into the "slippery slope", while pretending it didn't exist and encouraging normies to hide their intentions. Reddit doesn't care about copyrights, they have lawyers. They don't care about "misinformation", they tell people what is factual because of the mockingbird journalists in media. They don't care about right-wing, they have manipulated the users into believing far-left-wing is real.

      Ignoring the first things in your list appearing on SaidIt - spam, CP, and general porn - guarantees this site becomes the same. THAT is the slippery slope. Porn and spam is NOT subjective, and anyone who believes otherwise is a grifting astroturfer.

      Be cautious, and don't block - report, call it out, and rid us of it.

      Let the Admins know so they can strike the hammer down hard. Ignoring it with blocking is willful obliviousness, and that makes you part of the problem.

          He banned one of my accounts for rule-breaking, yet refuses to enforce the rules on the bone conduction spammer. That is not acceptable, and he refuses to change this policy. He needs to enforce the rules equitably

          Normal user bans don't work on spam bots. It ends up being better to just remove all their posts on sight. If saidit had a few better tools things would be different, but for now I'm stuck doing it this way.

          Shadowban the bots instead of perma-banning.

          Let them post into the void/oblivion and not realize they are invisible.

          If or when SaidIt gets better tools to investigate and deal with bots, then perma-bans can be a thing.

          These bots aren't actual people who can benefit from "unfair rules". This is worse for them.

          If it makes you feel any better, I often do ban spam accounts if I haven't seen that spammer before, or if the username is their product's name or company (so they lose that name). In fact that alt account of yours partly falls into the "spammer I haven't seen before" category.

          These aren't people. They're algorithms.

          The same rules apply to them. But there's no one-size-fits-all solution. You have to combat different things in the way that works best for them.

          Point me to some spammers and I'll ban them (if they are indeed spammers, ofc). But they'll have new accounts ready in plenty of time.

          This is what I am asking for, that they get a ban if I am subject to a ban. Also its not as simple as creating a new account, when you banned me I was denied by cloudflare while on this account which isnt banned (I used this browser to post the porn), and is using browser fingerprinting, because changing my VPN did not solve it, but changing the browser did
