Marat Samsonov was a soldier during World War 2 (or the Great Patriot War as they say in Russia) and this experience was very important in his artworks for the rest of his career. This painting depicts a young nurse carrying a blind soldier through Battlefield. Her delicate appearance contrast with the harsh environment and the heavy task she is performing.
