Mumble for sucks for chat. It's only good for voice. I setup an Element server when my discord got shutdown. RocketChat is another great alternative.

The problem is that every site that tries to be completely pro free speech ends up attracting scum that got banned everywhere else and then it turns into a neo-nazi site as all the normal people leave.

There shouldn't be censorship but there should be moderation. But that's a tricky line to toe.

Mastodon remains committed to standing up against hate speech... committed to active moderation against racism, sexism and transphobia.

Mastodon apps are already starting to block Gab specifically. But given the nature of Mastodon, they can't actually stop Gab from doing anything. They can only make life difficult for them.
