China's numbers may not be accurate regarding this. I will feel more confident of this once I see the same trend elsewhere, has that trend appeared outside China yet?

people should perhaps begin to prepare

People need to prepare now in earnest. Even the CDC has already told individual families to prepare last week. With an unknown degree of community spread in the US it's past time to avoid all non-critical contact.

I had thought reddit itself had not gone beyond quarantining subs.

I would encourage people to begin directing people here from reddit for discussion of the virus. It is a significantly less censored platform than reddit and the migration would be easy.
