My experience over the last few years has been quite the opposite. I've thrown some quite old / oddball hardware at Debian/Ubuntu, and 99% of it worked out-of-the-gate with no configuration needed on my end. Most of the problems come when trying to use super rare, or expensive enterprise stuff. A few years ago, GPU's could be a big issue, but even that's mostly settled now.

I said the same thing a few years back. I dumped windows about 6 months ago, and haven't looked back.

The only game I've had trouble with is Rust - it won't do multiplayer under Linux.
