Google filters what results you see. I have to applaud them for having the foresight to realize way back in the toddler age of the modern internet that a search engine has an immense potential to shape what people think by controlling what they see. I use DuckDuckGo now. Like u/Typhoon said it ain't perfect but I think it's better than Google at least.

I miss early days where there were 20 different search engines.

There are dozens of search engines. Way more now than ever.
