Is this the root of the whole "science vs religion" talking points and militant atheism stuff we see today? Wikipedia says Galileo was sometimes called the "father of the scientific method" and "the father of science".

The issue wasn't the science, it was the conclusions.

You have to remember that for hundreds of years the church supported research.

Galileo challenged the orthodoxy of consensus. His peers sided with the church, not out of fear, but out of zealotry and pride.

Look at "climate change" today. It's incredibly similar in many ways.
