Oh man. This is fucking terrible. SSC was a fantastic blog, one of the few still worth reading. He had really interesting ideas and a diverse (in the good kind of intellectual way, not the skin color kind of way) commenter group.

Fucking journalist. Fucking New York Times. Is there anything they can't ruin? When will these fuckheads face justice?

They do this a lot. Usually it's like where they destroy that kid from Iowa who raised beer money to give to children's cancer Center, and those they do it to typically have no ability or following to fight back.

They picked The wrong one this time. Even Russ Roberts of econtalk has sounded of about this

That's the only thing about pseudonymous writing - if the "overculture" takes an interest in you, you will be doxxed. I'm glad I'm not interesting.

I would love to hear why the news media in general insists on outing pseudonymous people, I have some vague ideas but no first hand knowledge.

This is TERRIBLE news, this was a fantastic blog. Dare I say, the best blog ever written ? Yeah, I think it was. It's that good, and now it's gone.

this could be fake, NYT never was going to write an article about this obscure blogger, he gets a little fame from such drama, puts his blog back up with more readers than before including patreon money.

SSC is hardly obscure. Seriously, you're going to go with that? It is one of the best blogs in the known universe. Just check out his influential essay that hits the nail on the head of why we have political polarization today.

NYT never was going to write an article about this obscure blogger

"Last week I talked to a New York Times technology reporter who was planning to write a story on Slate Star Codex. He told me it would be a mostly positive piece about how we were an interesting gathering place for people in tech, and how we were ahead of the curve on some aspects of the coronavirus situation. It probably would have been a very nice article.

"Unfortunately, he told me he had discovered my real name and would reveal it in the article, ie doxx me."

Why on Earth would anyone, in this day and age, defend the mainstream media? Particularly the New York Times, which is wealthy and powerful and can defend itself? You don't comfort the comfortable and afflict the afflicted, you've got it the wrong way round! You afflict the comfortable!

He needs to sue.
