Can someone explain to me the logic of building a border wall again?

It seems to me that were going to need to man the border wall once it's built anyway otherwise people are just going to climb over it.

Wouldn't it make more sense to take the money we are using for the wall and just put that into border security instead. Have more people man the boarder and more surveillance drones rather than a wall?

The intent is to funnel people to areas where they will more easily be caught, and to keep them from coming to dangerous, sparsely populated desert wilderness where they will most likely die of heat prostration and dehydration. An entirely open border has to be manned and patrolled its entire length, except for a few areas that might be impassible due to geological features. The wall is mostly just a force multiplier.

If things really start going to hell this winter, globally, we're going to wish we had a wall 100 feet high. There are going to be a lot more Sri Lankas, and we cannot be the 3rd world's lifeboat.

For clarification when you say "open border" you mean border with no wall? And not the traditional definition of no border controls?
