Ehhh, it makes jobs elsewhere. More of a lateral move honestly.

Take this chance to buy land somewhere and set up a solar farm.

If you want to complain and paint Biden as a rlly bad guy, in not stopping you. But don’t be all high and mighty about it if you’re not willing to bring in new jobs with a solar or wind farm.

solar and wind aren't going to run my car.

Electric cars can... seeing as most people replace their car in 5 years, sooner or later most people will actually drive cars that run on solar or wind. It’s cheaper anyways, 3$ per full “tank”. If you’re just driving around cities and never more than 80 miles in one stretch you’re better off buying a 5k used electric car.

Solar and wind will never replace oil and won't create 10% the jobs the pipeline would have directly provided and indirectly supported. Alberta alone has lost 100,000+ oil and gas jobs in the last decade due to inability to transport the oil they are producing. This and the trans-mountain pipeline are some of the last hopes for millions of people in the province to have any kind of economic stability.

All of this accomplishes nothing, as now what oil they can transport will be sent by truck/barge/train, all of which have a far higher chance of spilling/contaminating land on their trip. This whole thing is a worthless act of virtue signaling that doesn't help anyone or the environment.

Oil runs out, and the more used the hotter the world gets, which means people will start migrating towards the poles.

The Provence can get money and jobs through a method that is renewable, because with the pipeline you’re just pushing the problem on your kids.

Wind blows the entire year round, mechanics are needed to tend to the turbines, people are needed to build the turbines, a really long wire needs to be built to move the power generated, plus all those jobs pay more than oil jobs do.

Be one of the oil pioneers of the 1800s, be the person who creates 1000 jobs instead of being the one who just complains about it.

With the advent of shale gas extraction, oil isn't running out anytime in the next 3 generations at minimum; however I do agree that there likely is a need to move away from our carbon emission laden energy methods well before then. Sadly these same people who champion shutting down North American pipelines are the same ones that PR nuke any nuclear energy initiatives, guaranteeing our dependence on oil. Solar and wind, while excellent supplements to oil, simply cannot have the energy density to replace oil, without even getting into the logistics of using power that cannot be efficiently stored. Our only chance to move on from oil with science as it is is with nuclear power, which sadly also gets shut down by the same uneducated and emotional group going after oil. Shutting down this pipeline will have no positive impacts on the environment, as I said it would've been a much safer alternative to the methods that will be used instead. It will also not in any way impact global oil usage, as Iran, Saudi Arabia, and other countries will be more than happy to pick up the slack while emitting 20x the CO2 during extraction than Canadian or even American oil would.

I'd like to reiterate I agree we need to move on from oil, but this will not accomplish that, nor will it improve the environmental situation. What it will do is ruin many livelihoods and result in a net increase in global CO2 emissions.

The world is moving on from fossile fuels, yes right now there is enough left but you still shouldn’t burden your kids or grandkids. If we don’t stop now, the extinction were in right now will accelerate... Saudi Arabia is also running out of oil, the current young generation in general doesn’t want to use oil, and unless the Provence finds something else for money, it will sink even harder.

The cancelling of the keystone is basically the first warning.

It also increases emissions and heightens risk. Idiotic decision but it fucks over Canada most by far, so I'm okay with it.
