Good quality there but I'd hock the ruby and take a little trip. 🧐

The value is hard to peg, not sure a pawnshop would give much because the wholesale value of rubies is not that high, but retail prices for similarly sized rubies are about $1500. Never pay retail for jewelry btw.

Also I don't know, perhaps its provenance makes it more valuable as well. Not only is it my keychain Ruby, surely the Muskrat ruby is more valuable, but it is also the very first keychain ruby ever made to my knowledge. And only one still afaik.

Some come from the Thai-Burma border area but I know nothing about their ratings. Muskrat Ruby 🎵 If you want to buy jewels in bulk, just hang around tourist spots in Bangkok and you will meet someone whose relative runs a gem school and will get you a discount on a bagful of assorted gems. Many a foreigner has run afoul of that scam. As somebody said, the best way to double your money is fold it over and put it back in your pocket.

You bought your girlfriend an ashtray, and used the remaining funds for a fancy keychain.

A wise choice, because you still have the key chain.

Did she keep the ashtray?

Hahaa, it sounds bad when you put it like that. Neither the ashtray nor the ruby keychain are recent purchases, just showing off stuff I think is neat. Wifie has a horde of jewelry I have given her. She is partial to platinum and diamonds.
