Criticism of the FDA really has been long running and very bipartisan. The problem with pharmaceutical lobbyist and pay-rolled people involved in the FDA has been on going since like the 70's. Then the 80's and 90' had be criticism with handling of HIV drugs.

The criticisms are usually the same; Overt instances of pharmaceutical lobbying, collusion, and otherwise appearances of impropriety. Many instances of turning a blind eye, and recklessly, but quickly, approving, defending, and appearing to favor some drugs and food additives, with direly bad outcomes. As well as the opposite; slow-walking approval of other drugs for years and years, burying some in inconsistent excess requirements, thus driving the costs of new medications up astronomically and solidifying pharmaceutical near monopolies through regulatory capture, while making generics difficult, furthering end consumer medication costs.
