The Florida shooter, from what I understand, didn't specifically target a gay bar -- he just wanted to shoot up any bar and a gay bar happened to be closest to him at the time, I think.

Also the gay bar was a gun free zone. Admittedly, you cannot bring a gun to a pub in Florida, but those other pubs had armed bouncers while Pulse did not.
